For dematting before the bath I like just using Proclaim from Sallys Beauty Supply...in fact I use a few products from Sallys. I also love the Cure Care conditioner. It's about $8 for a gallon (or $6 when it's on sale..it is right now till the end of the month) but anyway...I mix a little bit of that through my recirculater in the tub and also add in a bit of proclaim detaingler and it works wonders on some of the matted doodles that come in the shop...i've used it also to de-shed certain breeds. Wonderful stuff (and cheap!)

As far as wonderful detangle sprays you can't go wrong with Stazko or Quicker Slicker (made by Natures Specialties), they are both very similar and really the main difference is how they smell..but i love them both.

Thanks for starting this thread! I too am looking for a good detangling, moisturizing leave-in spray as Millie is going through coat change. I'm not sure how helpful quicker slicker has been. It seems to help remove the mats but ends up drying her coat out more and leading to static. I have used Silk-N-Finish and I REALLY like the way it works. But it smells like a car air freshener.

I think one of my poodle grooming books recommends Miracle Coat? Has anyone used this?

I use Miracle Coat spray on their coats before brushing out. It works well for my spoos and leaves a nice scent on them. I can feel the suppleness in the coats after applying it and brushing it in.

I like Quicker Slicker for dematting. I put it on damp before the blow out. It can make the coat dry though.
I like Crown Royal for dry brushing and scissoring.
If you really need moisture, you should try Kalaya Emu Oil Spray. It works nicely on a damp dog. You have to be judicious, though, or it can make the coat oily.

What are you really looking for? A brushing spray? A spray on conditioner? A de-matting spray? I'm not sure that you can get everything in one product.

I am looking for a de-matting spray.

While on topic, I wouldn't mind learning about a good brushing spray either. I have been dry brushing (bad, bad!) OR sometimes using quicker slicker.

What do you use?

I know that there are specific dog type detangler sprays, but I use Mane & Tail Detangler and it works wonderfully. If I have a knot that needs to be broken down, I spray it on, rub it into the knot really well, then carefully work the knot apart. Never have had it not work on any type of knot or *shiver* burrs (I HATE burrs!!). For grooming spray, I use Magic Touch formula 3, this was suggested by a couple handlers I spoke to at dog shows. It comes in a concentrate which is a lot cheaper than buying the ready made spray. It doesn't leave a build up in the coat and helps keep coat matting down. I really like this stuff. And, it smells really nice on top of that! LOL

If you don't have any grooming spray at this point, you can always just spritz on water, that is still much better than brushing a dry coat. :)

You can easily get the Mane & Tail detangler at most livestock stores, also at Tractor Supply Co. if you have one near you. Some Petco and PetSmart have it also.

I have a great new product I just started using! Isle of Dogs conditioning spray . www.iodogs.com/c-46-no-63-detangle-conditioning-mist.aspx It is very light, not sticky or oily and great for brushing out and conditioning. It feels light like water.
